What is acceptable to wear to a corporate backyard gathering with wine and desserts.?
This is a chance to meet the CEO and Regional VP for a franchised organization. It is a backyard gathering being held by the regional developer. What would be apropriate for a male to wear. I dont want to over dress or under dress. Are there any good websites with up to date fashion for things like this. Would it be tacky to ask the person holding the gathering. what to do.

- Navy dockers open casual shirt No logos No plaids nice, pressed, but not trying too hard you are comfortable with yourself Make sure your socks and shoes are newish
- This "backyard" get together sounds a bit more posh than your average neighborhood barbeque! Nice dress slacks and a casual shirt would appear to be the dress of the evening. Throw in a tie and a sport jacket into your car before you leave the house and you will be prepared no matter what the case. I don't think a tuxedo will appear there, so you will be safe. NO jeans, gosh! You can also ask the host, not tacky, very considerate!
- I do not think it would be tacky to ask the host. Its better to ask than go to the gathering dressed inappropriately.
- Whatever you do, dont ask the person holding the gathering. If you want to make a good first impression, dont have a person think u cant make decisions(especially involving dressing yourself).
- dockers, polo shirt and a sport jacket good luck http://business.missouri.edu/255/default.aspx try this page
- Find out whether the gathering is a casual gathering or a formal one. If it is a casual gathering, I would wear clothes that are not too loud, noticeable but not too flashy. If the gathering is a formal one, wear a light colored suite (not too light) that would nicely blend with the occasion. Remember that simplicity is beautiful for men and women. Enjoy your backyard gathering!
- The best thing to do is ask everyone else who is going what they are wearing.
- I would recommend a nice dress. Something casual but with low closed toe shoes. I would not ask the person throwing it but if you know if they have had an event similar to this in the past I would ask a co-worker or even the CEO's secretary.
- From my corporate days I recall wearing a casual dress for saturday events unless it is truly a baseball, volley ball picnic in the park setting. A nice pair of tailored pants with a simple top (Silk tank) might do. No running shoes. The key is to dress casually yet tastefully. For heaven's sake, no jeans. I remember a book by John T Malloy, published in the seventies, I believe, when women were just starting to get upper level corporate jobs. It was call Dress for Success. Perhaps there is an updated version.
- I think it's always better to be more dressed up then under dressed when you're unsure of what to wear, especially to an event such as yours. Try checking out Banana Republic, or their website for style ideas...I think they're classy, affordable and always stylish...especially for the men. And like most everyone else said, don't wear jeans or logos...it's to casual.
